28 Days Later

Goodness, I haven't updated in a LONG time! My apologies. I've thought of it a few times, but the internet at my apartment has been spotty lately, and it seems like every time I want to update I'm not able to get online. I should get that fixed.

Things with Chance are still going very well. Tomorrow will be one month since our first date. We hung out for most of the day today and went to see "The Artist," which was quite good (not surprising, of course, given all of the awards it won). He's incredibly sweet. It seems like every time I feel like I've said something stupid or screwed things up in some way, he responds in the absolute perfect way. Like last night, I had a really awful headache - verging on a migraine - and couldn't really do anything but lie in the dark and try not to move. And instead of feeling like he was wasting his time (which I might have in his shoes) or just leaving and checking in on my later, he got me an ice pack for my head, turned off all of my lights, and laid next to me. Like, seriously, he's amazing.

No, we are not officially a couple yet. That's in his hands. He knows that I want to be and, while I understand his point of view and I certainly am not trying to pressure him, I'm a little frustrated because I don't feel like anything would change. I guess I'm not sure what's stopping him from making this "official." Neither of us are dating other people or want to be, we see each other two or three times a week, and he texts or calls me almost every day on his own accord. How would anything be different if we were in a relationship? It WOULDN'T be. The only difference is that I could introduce him to people as my boyfriend instead of awkwardly being like "This is, umm, Chance..."

Meh. Whatever. Really, this is a very minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things and I'm trying very hard not to pressure him in any way. Which is hard for me, because I'm a pretty assertive person, as you all know...But I'm trying to chill out for once!

Very busy week coming up. I'll try and update again in a few days (I have a few things I want to post about but wasn't able to while my internet was down) but I make no promises! We'll see how much time I have...

  2. Have you asked him to be your official BF? What would it hurt to ask?

  3. I'm glad for the update! And it's okay to play it cool for a bit, but if not then I agree with what Wendi is saying, step up and ASK the man, this is the 21st century!

  4. I read your blog last night and wish I was in the business of column writing for an online dating website, like I had been for a few months last year. Your "experiment" is one I have mixed feelings about.

I have sampled a few blogs like yours. As you're undoubtedly aware, you're not the first to try such a stunt and blog about it. I first heard of the idea when Good Morning America was promoting its dating darling, an employee who decided she'd line up a new guy every night in NYC for 31 days, and find ways to have cheap dates with all of them. Only after date 31 would she crown a champion. From a marketing standpoint, that was a great decision. I don't remember, but I think she met Mr. Wonderful in the first week of dates, but didn't stop until she finished the task. She got a lot of air time from GMA and has parlayed it into some sort of book. Well played. Perhaps you've heard of her? http://31datesin31days.blogspot.com/

It doesn't take much effort to find a bunch of blogs mirroring the concept... some abandoned, some not. I haven't scoured the internet for many of these, but I have noticed one thing amongst the handful of blogs I have briefly checked out: all of them are women.

The reaction I see is typically, "ah, how cute.... you go girl!" Would a guy trying on 30 women for size be thought of as cute, too?

I'm not surprised you garnered local media attention. And as of March 22 I'd say it appears you did this stunt for the right reasons. You pushed yourself to meet single men, and so far it appears you met a good one within a month of the experiment.

I am curious as to your motivations to create a blog. Why was it important to write about your dating prowess and expose it to the masses? Finding as many single men as possible through the power of the interwebs is not a valid excuse. It may have been a bit tricky, but you didn't need a blog to find men through the internet, as you proved with Chance. As I recall, he was an online dating site find, and that had nothing to do with your friends or this blog.

I enjoyed your adventures, and honestly, I hope they end. There are enough single people out there, reading about failure to find eternal happiness with Chance would do nothing for me. There will be many more of you who will come along and fill the void. It sounds like Wendi is itching to do so.
